Have you enjoyed the new-found freedom of the past week?

South Africa may have moved down to lockdown level 2, but that doesn’t mean that we should let our guards down. Now, more than ever, it’s important to be careful about sanitizing, wearing a mask, and maintaining social distancing.

Why masks are important during COVID-19

In many ways, face masks have become a symbol of the COVID-19 pandemic. We’ve learned to recognize friends and family by their eyes alone, and to identify when someone is smiling without seeing their mouths.

But behind the colourful fabrics and shop-entry regulations are very important reasons for wearing a mask.

  • Masks protect other people from your respiratory droplets (whether you’re infected or not)
  • You may not realize that you are infected (and contagious)
  • Masks protect you (the wearer) by covering your nose and mouth
  • Masks could help the economy recover by serving as a substitute for lockdown

There are few alternatives, even though we all hope for a vaccine in future

Why hand sanitizer is important during COVID-19

Although it is uncertain how long the Coronavirus can live on surfaces, it is estimated that it can persist for a few hours, to a couple of days.

Hand sanitizer is one of the ways to make sure that your hands remain free from the virus, especially after venturing into public spaces such as the grocery store or public park. Keeping a small sanitizer with you can make sure that you kill the virus after exposing yourself to potentially infected surfaces.
