“There’s just something about a teddy bear that’s impossible to explain. When you hold one in your arms, you get a feeling of love, comfort, and security. It’s almost supernatural." - James Ownby

Can you remember the cuddly shape and comforting feel of your beloved childhood bear?

The name “teddy bear” was first introduced in 1902 when President Theodore Roosevelt refused to shoot a bear during a hunting trip. Since then, there have been several iconic teddy bears who have provided companionship and comfort to kids around the world.

Who is your favourite teddy bear?

Over the years, there have been several endearing teddy bear characters who have crept into hearts and homes around the world. Here are just a few:

  • Paddington Bear - easily recognised by his duffle coat and cute red hat
  • Winnie the Pooh - A.A. Milne’s creation is a loveable, honey-eating bear
  • Baloo - Disney’s sleepy brown bear is a bundle of fun
  • Fozzie Bear - an iconic character from The Muppet Show
  • Forever Bear - the new teddy on the block

What is a Forever Bear?

Angela, one of the talented makers who sells her products with Mzansi Beautiful, is the creator of these adorable stuffed toys. Each Forever Bear is made with love and the result of a lot of care and attention.

Angela absolutely loves to create beautiful products. These Forever Bears are made from carefully selected fabrics and put together by hand, meaning that every bear is completely unique.

Forever Bear finds a home

It should come as no surprise that these adorable bears would fly off of the shelves. Just ask the two Mzansi Beautiful twins, Jacques and Stella, who couldn’t resist getting their own.

When Lindy, founder of Mzansi Beautiful, was packing the stunning products for the Freedom Weekend Market, her children spotted the Forever Bears on the table. A short two minutes later, they were begging to have them as their own.

The next day, little Jacques walked up to the market stall and pulled out all the money that he had saved from his teeth falling out. With the help of his dad, Jacques went home with a Forever Bear - and a new forever friend.

Visit us at the Freedom Weekend Market this weekend to buy locally-made, quality products. Whether you’re browsing for Christmas gifts or a treat for yourself, you can do so while supporting a local maker!
